Alexa Enabled Light Switch #iot #Alexa #3DPrinting

Great project video with thorough details sent in by Alex. They write:

Using a NodeMCU, a micro servo, and 3D printing, I created an Alexa enabled
light switch that can be used to turn any “dumb” light switch into a “smart”
device, without needing to modify the wiring in your home. The project runs
off of a pack of AA batteries and is compatible with any device that
integrates Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant. Code and 3D print files are
available in the project’s video description. This is a fun maker project
to get people into DIY home automation, and is good for integrating home
automation into older homes where rewiring light switches, etc. may not be
possible or difficult.

Google Home Minnie #3DPrinting #3DThursday

My wife wanted a Minnie stand instead. I remixed the Google Home Mini holder from Simomura’s R2D2 body, and the ears and bow from zacleung’s Minnie Mouse bust to create this design.

There are several versions included in the STL files. One file with the entire model complete. Then files with the individual pieces if your printer cannot handle the entire print at once.

I have no idea how well the entire model or the full ears & bow print. My build area is pretty small. So, i have to print this using 4 separate prints and then assemble them.

This is for the American 29g size Tic Tac box, big big thanks to the user Rccajack https://www.thingiverse.com/Rccajack/about for providing the internal dimensions and printing a couple of test prints to make sure this version fits properly.

The photo of the finished print in the Orange Tic Tac box is Rccajack’s print of this verison as we only have 16g & 49g boxes in the UK, I printed mine in red+white+blue because it seemed fitting ?

Dichroic 3D-printing material changes color with point of view

Dichroic 1

Via NewAtlas

In use since at least the 4th century AD, dichroic glass displays different colors depending on how it’s being viewed. Now, Dutch scientists have produced the effect in a material that can be used to create 3D-printed objects – and it’s not just a novelty, as it could have practical applications.

A team of researchers at Wageningen University started with regular polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), which is a widely-available polymer commonly used as a 3D printing medium. To this they added gold nanoparticles of varying sizes – not much of the gold was needed, as it ended up constituting only 0.07 percent of the resulting composite material’s weight.
