Every Thursday is #3dthursday here at Adafruit! The DIY 3D printing community has passion and dedication for making solid objects from digital models. Recently, we have noticed electronics projects integrated with 3D printed enclosures, brackets, and sculptures, so each Thursday we celebrate and highlight these bold pioneers!

Have you considered building a 3D project around an Arduino or other microcontroller? How about printing a bracket to mount your Raspberry Pi to the back of your HD monitor? And don’t forget the countless LED projects that are possible when you are modeling your projects in 3D!

In this project I’ll show you how to 3D print, code and assemble your own personal YouTube Subscriber counter for mounting on top of a screen. It will also show your total views. It’s low cost and easy to build.

It’s built around a low cost Wemos D1 micro controller and a dot matrix display module. With built in WiFi it only requires a USB connection for power once complete. The total build cost is around £15 / $18.

Alexa Enabled Light Switch #3DThursday #3DPrinting

Shared by SuperMakeSomething on Thingiverse:

Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant is found in many consumer electronic devices, and is a great way to get started with home automation. I recently purchased several Echo Dots, and while some of the came bundled with smart plugs that can turn my floor lamps into IoT devices, Alexa cannot be used for my home’s overhead lights unless I purchase a new set of lightbulbs or rewire my light switches and install internet enabled relays. To solve this problem, I decided to use 3D printing and a NodeMCU microcontroller equipped with an ESP8266 chip to create a battery powered, internet enabled smart switch that can be easily mounted over the existing light switches in my home!

ESP8266 Arcade Button #3DThursday #3DPrinting

fiercedeitylink shares:

Needed a “smart button” to easily turn on/off some lights via Home Assistant, and I had this arcade button left over from a Google AIY Raspberry Pi voice kit. The hole diameter is 28 mm, so it should fit regular sized arcade buttons. Designed to fit a Lolin V3 ESP8266 board.
