Pathfinder is a fan favorite character from the game Apex Legends. In this new guide, John Park shows you how to build your own interactive desktop Pathfinder desktop companion, complete with Adafruit PyPortal chest screen, voiceover lines from the the game, and glowing LED robot eye!

We’ll build Pathfinder using 3D printed parts, Sugru moldable glue, and an array of electronics, all running on the touch-screen display PyPortal coded with CircuitPython.

Note: This project was built in partnership with Sugrucheck out this link for a chance to win a 3D printer to help you build your own Pathfinder.

New Guide! PyPortal Guitar Tuner #CircuitPython #3DPrinting

Learn Guide: PyPortal Guitar Tuner

Build a simple Guitar Tuner with CircuitPython and Adafruit PyPortal! Use the touch screen to tap on tuning pegs and play music notes. The notes are pre-recorded wav audio files of guitar strings. The graphic of the head stock is a single bitmap. This uses the displayio library for CircuitPython and can be customized to make a unique sound board.

Disco Band Camp Jacket

Put an Adafruit Gemma M0 to work as you attach 120 Adafruit NeoPixels to the lapels of a vintage band jacket.

In a nutshell, this project starts by soldering small sections of NeoPixels into two longer strips and arrange them into a matrix formation. Add a clicky button to a Gemma M0 to showcase some beautiful animations and pick a brightness setting. Connect the two strips of NeoPixels to the Gemma M0, utilizing Mark Kriegsman’s special XY mapping code to tell the Gemma the location of each pixel. Finally, protect the strips from the elements, and attach it to a costume jacket. Whether you’re headed to TTITD (that thing in the desert aka burning man) or leading a marching band, this wearable is sure to make you the star of any event.

Counterfeit glue, rat poison, and international trade #makerbusiness

Planet Money’s most recent episode (#900!) tells a roller-coaster ride of international intrigue and counterfeit manufacturing.

The episode is a lot of fun and takes a few interesting turns (especially for a show about a glue company), but it also does a good job highlighting how complex the trade network is, and how hard it is for U.S. companies to deal with Chinese counterfeits. Spoiler alert, the story ends well for ABRO, but not all companies are so fortunate.
