Guardian Robot – Zelda Breath of The Wild #3DPrinting #Adafruit

Since the last Guardian Robot project, we’ve gotten a number of requests to add a servo and LED to the head – In this project, we’ll show you how to do that!

Mounted to the eye is a 10mm blue LED. The head itself is attached to a servo horn and mounted to a micro servo. The head can freely rotate while the eye blink randomly. Surrounding the body are 5mm blue LEDs that illuminate the various surface details.

The random motion of the servo and eye blinks give the illusion of the robot “searching”. It’s appears quite organic and live like, adding much more dimension to this replica.

Brass Heat-Set Inserts for Plastic – M3 x 4mm – 50 pack: Wanna improve the connection strength between your project’s 3D-printed parts, and also have nice clean surfaces? Instead of gluing bits together, or screwing plastic screws directly into your 3D prints, use strong and reusable machine screws and heat-set inserts. Heat set inserts are only a few cents a piece and have a grooved outside, with threads on the inside. Originally they were designed for injection molded parts but they work fabulously for 3D printed plastic as well.

Brass Heat-Set Inserts for Plastic – M3 x 3mm – 50 pack: You could use a plain soldering iron to try to heat-press these in – Heat up the iron and use it to press the insert in, wait for it to cool, then use like a hex nut that’s embedded inside the plastic. We strongly recommend our heat-set insert tool for soldering irons because it’s really hard to insert them straight otherwise and you risk damaging your print!

It works with Windows, Mac, and Linux, and has a built-in color screen that shows a live “dashboard” of all the I²C activity. It uses a standard FTDI USB serial chip to talk to the PC, so no special drivers need to be installed. The board includes a separate 3.3 V supply with voltage and current monitoring. It’s kinda like a Bus Pirate with a display and great Python support.

3D Printed Auto-Correcting Analog Clock with an Adafruit #ESP32 #Feather #Adafruit #3Dprinting @Adafruit

Auto-Correcting Analog Clock

A great project by Brian Obudho on all3dp.com goes through the build of an analog clock with a 3D printed case and special insides & software.

This DIY clock takes after grandma’s in a number of ways. For example, assuming you follow the instructions to the T, the case should be printed using wood and copper PLA. Apart from that, all of the inner workings are just like those found in grandma’s clock.

The digital insides consist of an Adafruit ESP32 Feather, a stepper motor, driver & battery.

AUTO-CORRECTING ANALOG CLOCK

The software is special: the clock corrects itself via software and an Internet connection to a NTP clock server!

At regular intervals, the software will poll the NTP clock server, and the time received – from the NTP server – is recorded in the ESP32 clock. Whenever it’s 12:00 (either noon or midnight) and the clock happens to be off for any reason, the software will fast-forward the hands to the 12 o’clock position, from which point the clock will resume its operation.

Rotating Door Lock DC Motor: Adding to our collection of somewhat specialized motors, this Rotating Door Lock Motor is a DC Gearbox motor with a little pocket that is intended for a door look mechanism. The motor only turns 90 degrees clockwise or counter-clockwise and will stall (but not strip) if you try to keep running it past the angle.

It’s geared down so it has high torque, but that also makes it slow – it is about 5 seconds for it to rotate ‘closed’ or ‘open’. That said, we like that you can power it from approximately 5V so its easy to hook up to your microcontroller or computer using Crickit and Arduino, CircuitPython or MakeCode. See more!
