New Guide! 3D Printed Stand for FunHouse #3DPrinting by @ecken

This simple stand is designed for the Adafruit FunHouse. It features a nice brick texture that is reminiscent to the Yellow Brick Road from The Wizard Of Oz.

The stand features four M3 size mounting holes for securing the Adafruit FunHouse. It is optimized to 3D print without any support material.

so i designed a stand before and they’re always kinda the same. it takes the same steps and recipe to build one. i wasn’t sure what else to do with it so thankfully i got a suggestion from limor to do a yellow brick road theme. because the funhouse pays homage to the wizard of oz, i thought it was cool. she asked if that was hard to do and i remembered the emboss feature would definitely make it possible.

so with that i designed a pattern using the new thin extrude – this makes the extrude command allow you to select single lines, and then give it a thickness, all in one feature. previously you had to use the surface extrude and thicken command separately so now its an all in one tool slash feature. with a rect pattern i built up a solid body and projected the surface into a sketch. that way i can select a single sketch profile and use that for the emboss.

this layer by layer on the MagTag stand shows thoroughly how to sketch it out with user parameters to so parametric. it could be useful if your looking to make a stand in this style but designing any part with those user parameters is always interesting. there’s some good use cases on sketch constraints too thats a topic that id like to highlight sometime.

not surprisingly the brick texture here is heavy duty on the calculations. theres two emboss features here because it’s on both sides. each feature pulls from the same sketch but they have different offsets. the alignment of the texture needed to be tweaked to avoid chewed up geometry. so making any changes in the timeline before the embosses makes fusion recalculate so it can be annoying. i suggest if you’re adjusting user parameters, make sure to suppress the emboss  features before changing values.
